Chapter 1: Respond to these questions with your own posting to my blog. Responses may range from 1-3 sentences and beyond if you feel like adding more detail. Avoid one word responses and be sure to read the responses of others in the class to gain more perspective. These responses need to be posted on Wednesday, the 28th by 1st block.
1. What is your reaction to Moché the Beadle? What do you think about his treatment by the
villagers after his return from Poland?
2. Describe Wiesel’s community at the beginning of the story. How does young Elie view
the world and his place in it?
3. What are some incidents that suggest or foreshadow the coming danger to the Sighet
Jews? Why doesn’t the community believe it is in danger?
Response
ReplyDelete1)My reaction to Moché the Beadle was that he seemed like a nice person and wise too.
2) wiesel's community seemed not fond of the poor but helpful in ways to them too. Young Elie seemed not understadning of his actions
3)when the hungarian police put Jews into cattle cars and when arrived in Galacia they made them dig graves and then shot them. the horrible part was that they lied saying that the Sighet Jews were happy and working, when what was really happening was a private execution of the foreigners

ReplyDelete1. Moché the Beadle had not gone mad or is making anything up. I think he just wanted to tell all the Jews of what fear and terror he had gone trough and warn them of what was coming for them. Villagers should not have thought he had gone mad or was telling stories, because they had no idea what was going on there so they had no place to say he was wrong.
2. Elie's community didn't seem to be taking the situation as seriously as they should have, they were not worried but full of hope. They were simply turning away the thought that the hungarian soldiers were coming and weren't giving up. Elie doesn't seem to be understanding what was going on very clearly, he wasn't living in fear but continuing on in an all Jew community as he called it.
3. Like Marisa M said the Hungarian police took the foreigners away in cattle cars reassuring everyone that they were happily working in a place they enjoyed when in reality they were digging up their own grave to be placed in. In result, the community did not believe that any danger would occur in the near future, but they would be taken to a better place to work until war was over.

ReplyDelete1. I thought Moche the Beadle was very intelegent. I felt that the townspeaple were more fond of him because most poor people are selfish and dont want to give, but take for themselves. Moche was humble and didnt have to steal or rob for money.
2. Wiesel's community was very relaxed with not much hatered or crime. So with the unexpected Soldiers coming and forcing peolpe to leave was a shock to there society. It was probably the first time any one in the town had be threatened for their own lives.
3. The Hungarian police would have everyone believe that the foreigners were taken to work in brick factories. But they also knew that it was a rumor and not for sure. So when every one was taken away in cattle cars they had no idea what was to come in there future, such as digging their own grave to be placed in.
1.Moche the Beadle was not crazy. He just wanted to warn his fellow jews of what was to come. He wanted them to know before it was to late. No one listned to him. He was ignored, becuase everyone thought he was making up stories. They should have taken what he was saying into consideration.
ReplyDelete2. Elie's town seamed oblivious to what was going on around the world. They where warned, but they did not listen, becuase they did not think it would happen to them. Elie does not know what is going on in the world like most 12 year olds.He is going on with his life like nothing bad is happening around him.
3. Like Marisa and Mikayla said the hungrain police gave the Jews flase hope of happy working conditions. In reality they where forced to dig big graves for themselves, and where killed bythe Gestapo. The community did not belive this would happen to them, becuase they where ignorant.
1. I thought Moche the Beadle was a good man who was only trying to warn his fellow villagers about the dangers of the Nazi's. The only problem with this was his story was a little unbelievable for people who hadn't witnessed it even if it was true.
ReplyDelete2. Wiesel's village was peaceful and into their religion. Wiesel viewed the world as if nothing bad ever happened in it.
3. The first foreshadowing i think was when Moche came back and warned the villagers of evil. We really know the people of Wiesel's village are in trouble when the Nazi's start living among them.
1) He was doing the right thing by trying to warn his village of the great terror and fear. It is also understandable how and why his village didn't believe him. How could they? Unless you saw it first hand you will never believe a story so far fetched. Elie also didn't understand or know about what was going on in the world. how could any 12 year old be expected to?
ReplyDelete3)when the Jews were taken away in cattle cars and killed. But when they told them that they were happily working. I think the town didn't believe because it was so far fetched and they didn't think it would every happen to them.
2)The town refused to belive what was going on and even when soldiers started to move into there town they still didnt fully belive what was going on. in addition
nooooo it just deleted my whole work! i was 1 and a half done! time to redo
ReplyDelete1. I think Moche is a good guy and funny! He tried to warn all the villagers the terrible things that had been happening to all the jews, but the villagers thought he was wrong and not right. He tried to tell them but the villagers just shut him down and said he was wrong.
ReplyDelete2. Elie felt the Jewish community in Sighet held him in the greatest esteem. And they refused to believe Moche. Like most 12 year old boys he probably doesn't know much about what is going on at all, hes just living life normal.
3. When Moche told everyone about all the dangers that was a dead give away of foreshadowing. The village i guess just thinks nothing is gonna go bad for example they won't listen to Moche.
Redone! :)
1) He was only trying to warn the people in the town telling them that trouble was coming. He was not crazy or anything he was just in shock from the things he had seen and he wanted the people to understand that.
ReplyDelete2) It kind of seemed like they were a perfect little town. Secluded and not really paying attention to what was going on outside of that town. So when Moche the beadle told them all these bad things the town never thought that it could happen
3)The Hungarian police was a big one. But also Moche the beadle had warned them and then soon after these police were invading their town and loading them onto cattle cars.
1)he wanted to warn people in their town , that troublw was coming.
ReplyDelete2)they only care bout what happends in their own town , not outside of it.
3)the police was a big one, but also moche the beadle had warned their town.
1. Moche tried to warn the villagers. But they thought he was crazy.
ReplyDelete2. Ellie's town is a type to think nothing will happen to them.
3. The police lied, saying they were going to work. Really they were going to kill them.
How about this? I'll just give you my thoughts on paper.
